Plus Pixel Collective – PixelARTD 4: Context

  • The Front Gallery & Cafe 84 Wattle Street Lyneham, ACT, 2602 Australia (map)

THE 4TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION BY THE PLUSPIX COLLECTIVE

This year, 5 members show their digital works created with iPads and Procreate.

All works are:

  • created as digital originals,

  • reproduced as high quality prints,

  • offered as unique or limited editions.

BOBBY GRAHAM, in her works Mid-Century Modern Man: Memory in Context, reimagines archival photographs of her father through colour overlays and ornate frames. By reframing family memory within contemporary digital art, Bobby invites viewers to consider how personal histories shift their meaning when placed in new contexts.

JUDY HUTCHINSON has taken the theme Context and created out of context unique digital images. A tree trunk, a burnt tree trunk, red Brussel sprouts and leaves under water are reimagined as vases, bowls and a jar. A sunset becomes a lament for Canberra’s lost Art Deco origins and a hidden tree is revealed by cutting away a smothering layer of plain colour.

ANNE MCDERMOTT lives several months a year in Arles, Provence, among centuries of history, architecture and art and where Van Gogh’s stars still shine. This is the context for her ‘Arles Stars’ series. Each image begins with one of her own paintings of Arles, which is digitally fragmented, layered and transformed. The images become more abstract and prismatic. Forming a new constellation of ‘Arles Stars’.

MICHAEL SMITHSON has reimagined the observation that many bird species are tetrachromats (they have 4-dimensional colour vision) and can see into the UV range, fantasizing that these birds secretly display spectacular colours to each other at night when no‐one else is watching them.

PETER VAN RENS created mosaics that give a new context to images created in other media such as watercolour, pencil and gel printing. The mosaics evoke memories of Andalusian tiles, Art Deco designs, even his mother’s quilts. Their harmony may provide the viewer a moment to pause, reflect and let the the mind drift away from the chaos that surrounds us!
