EMERGE

  • The Front Gallery & Cafe 84 Wattle Street Lyneham, ACT, 2602 Australia (map)

EMERGE is a dynamic exhibition of expressive paintings by Annie Pritchard. Subjects are not just observed but emerge from the paint, capturing the energy, feeling and presence of the artist at the time. Through aggressive color use, fluid technique, and bold application of paint, these works move past simple representation to capture the moment a subject - be it a human figure or a natural force. EMERGE invites viewers to look beyond the surface and experience the vital, visceral and playful energy contained within the canvas.

Artist Statement

My work is an exploration of the inherent beauty and complex energy found in both the human form and the natural world. I operate at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, utilising expressive brushwork, bold color palettes, and fluid line quality to move beyond simple representation.

From figures to faces to abstracts all are united by a singular desire: to capture feeling and presence over photographic precision. I am less concerned with mirroring reality and more interested in revealing the essential spirit of a subject.

In my portraits and figurative pieces, color is used not just as a descriptor, but as a vehicle for emotional resonance, often disrupting naturalistic tones to highlight an internal world. Similarly, my abstract and nature-based works focus on the dance between light, texture, and movement, inviting the viewer into a space of visual contemplation.

Ultimately, my practice is a search for vitality. Each piece is an invitation to pause, to look closer, and to experience the raw, expressive power of paint.
