NORDIC ECHO by Enita Luhtaniemi

  • The Front Gallery & Cafe 84 Wattle Street Lyneham, ACT, 2602 Australia (map)

Nordic Echo is a solo art exhibition by Finnish-Australian Artist Enita Luhtaniemi. This series of contemporary acrylic landscapes explores intergenerational heritage, the shifting of light, and the turn of seasons.

Sometimes the echo we hear is one of memory, carried quietly through time and nature.

Come and experience a touch of Nordic inspiration in Canberra.

Enita Luhtaniemi is Canberran Artist, working from a home studio on Ngunnawal Land. As a dual citizen of Finland and Australia, she is influenced heavily by her Nordic heritage. While she has a deep love of Australia as her home, she feels a sense of longing for the climates and cultures of Europe.  Her works, which often depict contemporary impressionist interpretations of Nordic and Australian landscapes, are also an ode to her family, including her late Mother, and the enduring connection and importance of intergenerational memory. Her works explore the importance of cultural identity for diaspora living in Australia.

Enita draws inspiration from nature, places and weather. She likes to explore the interplay between light and shadow to convey mood, time or movement. Her work is primarily in acrylic paint on stretched canvas or canvas boards, using at-times juxtaposing techniques of soft, layered brushwork and heavy textured palette knife. This means that her work shifts from feather-light, such as the depiction of soft clouds or fogs, to choppy, even harsh, angular textures in foliage, frosts, rocks, trees or grasses. No two works are the same and imperfections are part of the story, aiming for interpretation over realism.
