Where she lands by Justine Maughan

  • The Front Gallery & Cafe 84 Wattle Street Lyneham, ACT, 2602 Australia (map)

Where She Lands is a body of abstract work created in response to the inner, complex terrain of midlife.

This exhibition speaks to the moment when familiar ways of coping begin to fall away, when something deeper asks to be acknowledged. It is not a fixed destination, but a process of softening, listening, and allowing.

Each work emerges through an intuitive dialogue between material and emotion. Layers are built, disrupted, and reformed, mirroring the inner shifts that occur when we begin to meet ourselves with greater honesty and care. There is no single narrative here; instead, the pieces hold space for ambiguity, vulnerability, and becoming.

At its heart, Where She Lands is an invitation:
to pause,
to breathe,
to notice what is stirring beneath the surface.

It honours the courage it takes to sit with uncertainty, and the quiet strength found in choosing a more compassionate way of being.

Artist Bio

Justine Maughan is an abstract artist and Creative Arts Therapist based in Queanbeyan, NSW. Her practice sits at the intersection of art-making and inner work, using intuitive, process-led creation as a pathway to self-discovery, healing, and emotional expression.

Working primarily in abstract forms, Justine explores the subtle and often unspoken layers of the human experience, particularly the transitions, tensions, and transformations that arise through midlife. Her work is not about representation, but about resonance: colour, movement, and texture become a language for what cannot always be said.

Alongside her studio practice, Justine offers individual Creative Arts Therapy sessions from her boutique studio. Her approach is gentle yet deeply restorative, supporting clients navigating anxiety, PTSD, shifting identities, and life transitions. Through guided creative processes, she invites others to reconnect with themselves, fostering insight, clarity, and a return to wholeness.
