Drawn to draw

  • The Front Gallery & Cafe 84 Wattle Street Lyneham, ACT, 2602 Australia (map)

The Creative Drawing group began life in 2016, and this exhibition celebrates 10 years of our art making. The group comes together weekly in the ASOC studio at the M16 art centre in Griffith, and sometimes works plein air in various locations around the ACT. Our focus is on drawing, which these days can take many forms and use a wide variety of media. This diversity is well demonstrated in this exhibition. For a long time defining drawing has been a difficult task, but at its core is the notion that drawing involves mark making. A drawing is often valued for the evidence of an artist’s thinking and feeling through the marks that have been made. Drawing is widely acknowledged as the bedrock of a wide variety of art forms, including painting, sculpture and printmaking. Currently our group consists of 19 artists, and some of those have been members of the group since it began. Some people love experimenting and do so frequently, while others focus on building on particular techniques and styles. In every session there is the opportunity for sharing what we do, stimulating and supporting each other. What we all have in common is our love of drawing: we are Drawn to Draw!
