Belinda Barancewicz’s Empty Vases is a series of pen-and-ink botanical works exploring absence, restraint, and the quiet architecture of native flora. Drawing from observed specimens collected across Canberra suburbs including O’Connor and Crace, the exhibition moves between detailed botanical study and composed visual meditation. Centred on native trees, florals, seed pods and foliage, the works use line, repetition and negative space to explore ideas of holding, memory, and form. While grounded in real species, the series moves beyond traditional botanical illustration, creating contemplative works that sit between observation and storytelling.
Belinda Barancewicz is an Australian multidisciplinary artist working across ink-based illustration and screen storytelling. Alongside her visual arts practice, she has spent more than two decades working as a director, producer and writer in broadcast television and documentary, including Play School. Her practice explores identity, place, and environment through carefully constructed visual narratives, bringing together observational drawing with composition, rhythm, and emotional restraint.
Empty Vases marks her debut solo exhibition of botanical ink works. All original works will be available to collect, with a limited release of edition prints from selected pieces available following the exhibition.
