Artist: Karen Holloway & Kathleen Potts
Karen Holloway is an Australian artist based in Canberra.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication and a Bachelor of Applied Science in the Conservation of Cultural Conservation.
Vintage vases and family heirlooms, frayed textiles, floral patterns and the nuanced beauty of native flora, encapsulate the stories of generations past and resonate with the heart of the land. For Karen, observing the beauty in both the ephemeral and the enduring, fosters a deeper appreciation for the world around us.
Stemming from a background in graphic design and illustration, Karen deigns nature inspired artworks with a vintage sensibility. She navigates the delicate balance between creation and preservation, recreating the subtle textures of vintage patinas.
Kathleen Potts is a New Zealand born Australian painter based in Canberra.
Drawing on the natural world around her, Kathleen investigates how personal narrative is influenced by the subjective memory of place, setting up scenes which invite the imagination of the viewer to step directly into them with the goal of eliciting a personal and emotional response.
Grounded in the landscape, Kathleen's sophisticated use of colour and elements of spontaneity and chance blend together to create scenes of still beauty, exploring themes of impermanency and memory of place.
Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and is a current studio holder at Strathnairn Arts Association.
Celebrating the rich interconnected stories of the natural world and collective memory, in their work Kathleen Potts and Karen Holloway invite viewers to re-visit personal memories, creating a tapestry of emotional responses that honour both the beauty of the past and the impermanence of the present.
